Everyone knows the classic "slug bug" game... You see a Volkswagen Beetle, yell out the color of the car and punch the person next to you. VW's recent ad compaign added a new twist to this well known game. The commercials show people not just identifying the Beetles, but all Volkswagens.
Please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_buggybuggy for more information on the game.
With this new change in the game's rules, we have started to play once again, changing a few of the rules. I think we have started to take this game a little to seriously....

We first decided that we don't like to hit or punch, so we poke eachother instead. The game started off pretty simple but soon it became an all out competition. Derek decided that he did not like losing all the time (he typically drives and thinks paying attention to the road is more important.) While out on errands, Derek decided to go to a Volkswagen dealership and took pictures that he sent to me on my phone. This sneaky move was the ultimate "slug bug."
I refused to be defeated this way. Derek had officially started war. I happen to think that driving to a dealership is cheating, but very funny. So while I was running errands one day, I kept my eyes open and snapped shots of every Beetle I saw then emailed them to Derek. I concentrated only on the Beetles because we had decided that they were worth more.
So? Have we taken it too far? After much debate about our current rules, we made some modifications. If Derek is driving and spots a VW in the rear view mirror, he must state "you are beautiful" before he points out the car, giving me a chance to to turn around. If I spot a VW on the opposite side of the road while Derek is driving, I must state "thank you for driving" before pointing it out, giving Derek a chance to look over.
We do not keep a running score so we will never have a winner or loser, but it sure makes car rides a bit more interesting!
